The north-west coast runs 8 to 9 metres per second at hub height, and the island's wind capacity sits there for that reason.

Transmission out of the region has not kept pace with what the turbines can produce, so generation gets curtailed when the lines fill.

A load placed at the generation draws power the grid cannot move.
